Mobile, Marine and Industrial network based controls.
Profibus - DP. - Originally developed by Siemens and then placed in the public domain. Profibus DP uses an RS485 based physical layer. The usual network speed is 12Mbits/s. This network is stronger in Europe than North America. This network is relatively high performance and is one of the easiest to implement. It has few uses outside of industrial applications with a PLC/PC based master.
DeviceNet - Developed by Allen Bradley and available to members of the ODVA this comprehensively defined network was originally designed to operate on a CAN physical Layer. This network requires a considerable commitment of resources to implement.
J1939 - SAE Spec used for vehicular networks. This network runs on top of CAN.

ASI (Actuator Sensor Interface) Originally developed by Siemens and then placed in the public domain.
CAN based systems. Developed by BOSCH, CAN is perhaps the best physical/d
